Pediatrician – Full-Time and/or Locum

Brockville General Hospital, through its partnership with Queen's University, is currently seeking a full-time pediatrician. As recruitment ensues, we also have opportunities for locum coverage. The pediatrician provides community-based consultative practice including out-patient clinic coverage in Brockville as well as on call and labor delivery suite coverage. The on-call rotation is 1 in 3 and there are approximately 300 deliveries annually.

The position is funded through an Alternative Funding Arrangement (AFA) with a full-time salary of an estimated $350-400K per annum. Locum coverage payment from the AFA is estimated at $1,500 per day plus Hospital on Call Coverage (HOCC) at a rate of $302 for weekdays and $602 for weekends and statutory holidays or >$10,000 per week.

ACADEMIC PEDIATRICIAN-DIVISION OF PEDIATRIC MEDICINE

The Department of Pediatrics at CHEO, University of Ottawa is recruiting full time Academic Pediatrician within the Division of Pediatric Medicine. The ideal candidate will be Royal College certified or equivalent in Pediatrics. Candidates must have an MD and be eligible for licensing in the Province of Ontario. All qualified candidates are invited to apply; however, preference will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents. The successful candidate will be eligible for a faculty appointment in the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Ottawa at an academic rank commensurate with experience. While English is the language of the health record, functionality in French is an asset.

The Department of Pediatrics is affiliated with CHEO, the CHEO Research Institute and the University of Ottawa. Together, we provide outstanding patient care, leading research, and quality pediatric medical education. The Department of Pediatrics provides health care to newborns, children and youth of the Ottawa area, as well as those from Eastern Ontario, Western Quebec, Nunavut and parts of Northern Ontario (population of approximately 1.8 million). The Department of Pediatrics has 18 distinct divisions, which includes Pediatric Medicine.

The Division of Pediatric Medicine is recruiting an Academic Pediatrician to join their expanding division. The division is comprised of 18 dynamic, diverse and highly engaged faculty members. Many hold academic leadership positions in the areas of Undergraduate and Postgraduate Medical Education, CME, Indigenous Health, Quality Improvement, Patient Safety, and Informatics. The division is known for its collegiality, supportive environment and collaboration.
CHEO’s inpatient medical units admit a large breadth and volume of pediatric patients throughout the year. Encountered conditions are widely varied, including children with medical complexity, as well as those with common pediatric illnesses. There are approximately 3000 admissions and 16,000 patient days annually on the CTU, representing approximately 40% of the total inpatient hospital activity. CHEO has representation in all pediatric subspecialties.
The cornerstone of clinical care for divisional members is provision of high-quality patient centered care on the inpatient clinical teaching units (CTU), the Complex Care Program (inpatient and ambulatory services), and tertiary level outpatient consulting pediatrics. Divisional staff also support an Academic Pediatric Medicine Fellowship Program.

Candidates who are interested in pursuing an academic career in Pediatric Medicine should consider applying. Expertise or acquired certification in Quality Improvement, Patient Safety, and or Academic Pediatric Research through acquisition of a Masters in Clinical Epidemiology would be an asset. Those who have completed a Pediatric Medicine Fellowship (Academic and/or Clinical) and are interested in pursuing an academic focus in these areas should also consider applying.

The Division of Pediatric Medicine is recruiting 4 General Pediatricians to join the Admit Team- a new innovative solution instituted 1 year ago- to help reduce delays in care for patients being admitted to the hospital under Pediatrics. Our team works out of the Emergency Department (a high acuity environment), to provide the initial assessment and ongoing care, for children awaiting admission to the inpatient ward.

Roles and Responsibilities Include:
•Provide a pediatric consultation and initiate admission when indicated for Pediatric Medicine patients in the ED environment.
•Provide ongoing care for undifferentiated, admitted patients (under Peds) until they are transferred to the inpatient medical unit.
•Act as the liaison between the ED and the Pediatric department- providing patient handover to the accepting physician.
•Procedural skills such as lumbar puncture, acute care management.
•Other clinical needs to optimize patient flow and support the inpatient units where appropriate.
•Work collaboratively with NP, nursing staff, ED physicians, specialists and other team members in an environment with high acuity.
•Providing on-going education and support to the learners.

This role is integrated in the Division of Pediatric Medicine and offers other opportunities. As CHEO is a teaching hospital, the supervision and teaching of learners is an important part of this role. The working commitment represents shift work and the shift distribution will vary based on the season.

Pediatrician – Full Time

The Opportunity:

The regional pediatric program at PRHC includes a dynamic group of pediatricians, nurses and nurse practitioners providing a wide breadth of services to the hospital, including:

Inpatient care with a 24 bed Maternal Child Unit, 10 of which are dedicated to pediatrics.
Participation in a shared-care hospitalist rounding model is an expectation.
Level 2b NICU (10 bed). An interest or additional training in neonatology would be an asset. There are approximately 1,700 deliveries a year at PRHC, with another 700 at surrounding referral centres
Pediatric Outpatient (POP) Clinic. A variety of pediatric clinics operate out of the hospital, with over 20,000 visits
annually. Pediatric clinics include: Complex Care Clinic, Personal Health Improvement Team (PHIT), Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome/High Risk Antenatal (NAS), Asthma/Complex Respiratory Medicine, Diabetes Clinic, Emergency Room Follow-up, Urgent Care, Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario (POGO) and Infusion clinics.

The pediatric group provides continuous, shared call coverage, consultation services to the PRHC specialists, emergency room, and regional institutional partners as well as attendance at high-risk deliveries.
